How do you achieve optimum health and well-being? (1)

This question popped into my mind this morning and I thought this would be a great topic to discuss over the next few days. As we are approaching 2009 many of us have resolutions for the New Year pertaining to our health and well-being.

The very first, and certainly the most important, place where wellness starts is in the Mind – your mindset is the key to optimum health and well-being. The thoughts and emotions that you think and feel will have a direct impact on your physiology – this has been proven over and over again. Positive thoughts create constructive processes within the body, whilst negative thoughts create destructive processes. This is a fascinating topic which we will explore further in the weeks to come.

The thoughts that we “choose” to think create the experiences that we have. The thoughts you are thinking and the words you are speaking at this moment are creating your future. Self-approval and self-acceptance in the now are key to positive change. We have to learn to love ourselves and accept ourselves for where we are currently, even though it may not be the ideal health or weight situation. Only then can we move forward to where we would like to be. So often we don’t accept ourselves, our current state of health, the shape of our bodies or our weight – this gives attention to the things that we dislike or don’t want regarding our health, which keeps us stuck in our current situation.

Have you ever seen 2 people following the exact same program to improve their health and well-being, one person will have fantastic results but the other will have no results? Is it the program? No it’s their very different mindsets. The person that achieves results is optimistic, excited and positive that they will get results and accepts themselves fully, while the person with no results has a negative mindset to begin with – no motivation, disliking where they are currently, doubting that the program will work and generally feeling depressed.

Your mind is a tool for you to use in any way you wish. The way you now use your mind is only a habit, and habits, any habits, can be changed, if we want to do so.
